SUMMARY:An Evening with Ken Burns: "The Vietnam War"
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, August 26th for our fifth annual An Evening with Ken Burns event!  This year we will be screening episode 6\, “Things Fall Apart”\, from his ground-breaking documentary\, “The Vietnam War”. \nThe event will also feature an audience Q&A with Ken Burns and a book and DVD signing presented in conjunction with Between the Covers book store. \nTickets are $25 for non-members\, $20 for members\, and $5 for students and can be purchased here or by calling or visiting the Museum. \nPlease note that all tickets will be distributed via will call.  No physical tickets will be sent out in advance of the screening. \n(Photo credit: Tim Llewellyn) \nAbout the Film… \nThe Vietnam War tells the epic story of one of the most consequential\, divisive\, and controversial events in American history as it has never before been told on film. Visceral and immersive\, the series explores the human dimensions of the war through revelatory testimony of nearly 80 witnesses from all sides—Americans who fought in the war and others who opposed it\, as well as combatants and civilians from North and South Vietnam. Ten years in the making\, the series includes rarely seen and digitally re-mastered archival footage from sources around the globe\, photographs taken by some of the most celebrated photojournalists of the 20th Century\, historic television broadcasts\, evocative home movies\, and secret audio recordings from inside the Kennedy\, Johnson\, and Nixon administrations. THE VIETNAM WAR features more than 100 iconic musical recordings from greatest artists of the era and haunting original music from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross as well as the Silk Road Ensemble featuring Yo-Yo Ma. http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-vietnam-war/about/ \nAbout Episode 6…. \nOn the eve of the Tet holiday\, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces launch surprise attacks on cities and military bases throughout the south\, suffering devastating losses but casting grave doubt on Johnson’s promise that there is “light at the end of the tunnel.” The president decides not to run again and the country is staggered by assassinations and unrest. http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-vietnam-war/episodes/episode-6/ \nAbout Ken Burns…\nKen Burns has been making documentary films for almost forty years. Since the Academy Award nominated Brooklyn Bridge in 1981\, Ken has gone on to direct and produce some of the most acclaimed historical documentaries ever made\, including The Civil War; Baseball; Jazz; The Statue of Liberty; Huey Long; Lewis & Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery; Frank Lloyd Wright; Mark Twain; Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson; The War; The National Parks: America’s Best Idea; The Roosevelts: An Intimate History; Jackie Robinson; and\, most recently\, Defying the Nazis: The Sharps’ War.\nKen’s films have been honored with dozens of major awards\, including fifteen Emmy Awards\, two Grammy Awards and two Oscar nominations; and in September of 2008\, at the News & Documentary Emmy Awards\, Ken was honored by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
