SUMMARY:Hike Into History: Ilium
DESCRIPTION:Hike Into History with Telluride Historical Museum’s Executive Director Kiernan Lannon. This 2-3 hour hike will journey through the Ilium Valley. On the hike you will learn the history of this unique stretch outside of Telluride that includes Telluride’s AC power story\, the Rio Grande Southern Railroad\, details and location of Vance Junction\, as well as the story of the Trout Lake Flood. \nThere will be a lot of information on this tour and it is a perfect way to socially distance\, enjoy the great outdoors\, and learn about some very influential moments in Telluride history. \nTour will happen rain or shine so please prepare for all types of mountain weather. Bring water and snacks/lunch\, as well as appropriate clothing and sun protection\, and of course\, your mask. \nThe hike is rated easy to moderate. \nThere will be no carpooling. Please drive yourself and meet at the parking area adjacent to the old church camp/Ilium Power Plant off Ilium Road (at the intersection of 63L and 63J roads) at 9:00 a.m.\nHike is limited to 15 people max\, payment is required to reserve a spot. Call the Museum to reserve.

SUMMARY:Lindsey Ross Print Debut
DESCRIPTION:The Telluride Historical Museum has collaborated with renowned fine art photographer Lindsey Ross to produce a rare series of limited edition prints created with a negative from the Museum’s collection. \nThe Museum will be debuting the special series of prints Thursday\, Sept. 24 at 5:30 p.m. on the Main Street non-profit busking stage\, which also happens to be very near to where the original photograph was taken. The evening will also feature a display of vintage portraits from the Museum’s collection as well as the opportunity to meet Ross\, learn about the process she used to create the prints\, and\, if interested\, book an appointment with Ross to have your portrait taken using historical techniques during the course of the weekend. \nFor this collaboration the Museum chose an image originally taken at the intersection of Pine and Colorado in 1884. Most of the buildings you can see in the photo no longer exist and the photograph provides a rare glimpse into what Telluride looked like in its earliest years. \nRoss specializes in wet plate collodion and tintype photography. The process was invented in the 1850s and was used up through the 1880s. Each image requires extensive equipment\, chemicals\, a darkroom\, and presence which is what drew Ross to the craft. For the Museum collaboration\, Ross used historically appropriate techniques to produce a limited series of silver gelatin prints. All proceeds from the sale of the prints will go to supporting the Museum. \nRoss is no stranger to Telluride. In addition to being a featured artist in Telluride Arts’ Art + Architecture Weekend\, she was also the subject of the film “Lindsey Ross: A Less Convenient Path” which was an official selection of Telluride Mountain Film Festival 2017. She participated in artist residencies locally with the Telluride MountainFilm Festival and at Steeprock Artisans Guild in Sawpit. However\, her work extends far beyond these canyon walls. The film was also an official selection for the Banff Mountain Film Festival 2017 and she has done residencies with the Squire Foundation\, and\, most recently\, the Budapest Art Factory.
