SUMMARY:Bill and Todd’s Excellent Ames Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Bill and Todd of Mountain Trip have partnered with the Telluride Historical Museum for an action packed day of history and ice climbing in Ames. \nIt’s the next best thing to a time machine…start off the adventure with a special behind the scenes tour of the Ames Power Plant. In 1891\, this power plant was the first in the world to use alternating current for commercial purposes successfully. Using technology perfected by Nikola Tesla\, the Ames Power Plant harnessed hydro-power through an induction motor to produce and transmit electrical power. The power plant was rebuilt in the early 1900s and still stands and operates today. \nFollowing this tour\, Mountain Trip will provide an introduction to ice climbing while we explore the totally awesome history and basics of this intense sport! \nTransportation\, climbing boots and gear will be provided. Please check out https://mountaintrip.com/tellurides-local-mountain-guides/ice-climbing/half-day-ice-climbing-in-telluride/ for tips on how to dress for ice climbing.  Plus don’t forget to pack sunscreen\, layers\, extra water and a lunch. \nLimited spots available\, participants must RSVP and provide their shoe size ahead of time. To purchase tickets contact Theresa at 970-728-3344 or at Theresa@telluridemuseum.org. \nThe outing will last around 5 hours. Meet at the Telluride Historical Museum at 9:00 am sharp to be fitted for gear.

SUMMARY:Glade Hadden on Colorado’s Eagle Rock Shelter and 13\,000 years of Living Well on the Western Slope
DESCRIPTION:Eagle Rockshelter and 13\,000 Years of Living Well on the Western Slope. \nAlong with the Telluride Institute\, the Telluride Historical Museum is co-hosting retired BLM archaeologist Glade Hadden of Delta\, Colorado. Hadden uncovered the Eagle Rockshelter on the Gunnison River in Delta County\, the oldest archaeological site in Colorado. The site uncovered artifacts to demonstrate near-continuous indigenous habitation of the Western Slope for 130 centuries. \nDr. Glade Hadden has been a professional archaeologist for over 30 years\, and has worked throughout the West and his personal space (also known as the Colorado Plateau). Glade moved to the Montrose area in 2006 and worked as the BLM’s Uncompahgre Plateau Field Office archaeologist\, from which he retired in April of 2018.  Glade and his wife Susan are currently building their retirement home in the Paradox Valley. \nEagle Rock shelter\, located in the northern end of the Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area some 12miles east of Delta\, is the oldest human occupation in Colorado and one of the oldest known stratified occupation sites in North America.  This presentation will celebrate 13\,000 years of living well on the Western Slope.

SUMMARY:Hike into History - Tomboy Mine and Savage Basin
