Free Screening “Colorado Experience: Ladies of the Mine”

January 13, 2016 @ 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM MST

FREE

The Telluride Historical Museum’s own board member Rudy Davison and his wife Andie won the Viewer’s Choice contest for the Rocky Mountain PBS Program “Colorado Experience.” The documentary episode will be screened at the Sheridan Opera House for free followed by a community Q&A with the show’s producers.

Based on the real-life stories of three women who lived in Colorado mining camps at the end of the 19th century, the 30-minute documentary tells of their challenges with “high altitude, groceries delivered by mule train, pack rats and spoiled Thanksgiving turkeys.”

One of the stories that will be told in the documentary is that of Telluride’s own Harriet Fish Backus, the Tomboy Bride, who wrote the definitive account of domestic life in Tomboy Basin in the early 1900s.

6:00pm reception at the Sheridan Opera House, 6:30pm screening followed by a community conversation with producers and experts. The Davisons will be in attendance and the show producers Julie Speer and Mariel Rodriguez-McGill will join the panel discussion following the screenings.
