FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt, with Benefits
Salary Range: $56,500-$58,000 (Dependent on Experience)

The Director of Education and Outreach oversees the Museum’s educational programs and tours, manages the dissemination of the Museum’s PR and advertising materials, and works closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement marketing, special events, membership plans, and fundraising efforts.
Job Description
The Director of Education and Outreach will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Museum’s educational programming, including facilitation, scheduling, development, and the maintenance of program materials. This role also involves acting as the Museum’s representative to the school-based community and fostering relationships with local educators and students.
In addition to educational programming, the Director will collaborate with in-house design staff to coordinate the Museum’s advertising and public relations activities. Responsibilities will include ensuring PR and advertising materials are effectively disseminated through various channels, overseeing the Museum’s monthly e-newsletter, coordinating with the local press to secure coverage, and managing the Museum’s social media presence.
The incumbent will also collaborate with the Executive Director on the planning and execution of special events and fundraisers. This includes working with venues, caterers, distributing marketing materials, managing RSVP lists, and securing event donations and sponsorships.
Further, the Director of Education and Outreach will support the Museum’s membership program by assisting with the creation of membership materials, maintaining and strengthening relationships with current members, growing the membership database, and coordinating member-focused events and activities.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Oversee and facilitate all Museum educational programs, including school field trips and adult-centered programming.
- Develop, update, and maintain educational program offerings.
- Lead public and private community tours when necessary.
- Set and oversee the Museum’s marketing direction, aligned with its mission of being “an indispensable cultural asset” and preserving the “rich, colorful, and diverse history of the region.”
- Develop and implement marketing plans, including budget estimates and timelines for all programs and events.
- Distribute marketing and PR materials through both printed and electronic communications.
- Collaborate with local press outlets to ensure adequate media coverage of Museum events and programs.
- Work closely with the Executive Director on member recruitment, retention, and engagement activities, including planning and executing recruitment events.
- Manage and expand the Museum’s contact database.
- Assist in the planning and execution of all Museum special events.
- Represent the Museum at community events, Museum functions, and other public engagements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of marketing best practices and methodologies.
- Familiarity with e-communication platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact).
- General knowledge of American history.
- Spanish language proficiency is a strong plus.
- Enthusiasm for learning and working in a collaborative, family-like environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Public History, Education, Museum Studies, American Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of experience and education).
- At least two years of experience in a museum or similar organization is preferred.
- Experience in customer service, teaching, or public speaking/presentation required.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Experience with cultural events and marketing preferred.
