NEW! Pandemic Cemetery Tour
September 28, 2020 @ 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM MDT
$10 – $15This is not your average Lone Tree Cemetery Tour! Telluride Historical Museum’s Director of Programs and Exhibits Theresa Koenigsknecht, along with other Museum staff, have done new research to produce a completely revamped tour focused on how pandemics, disease, and illness affected the Telluride community and others.
On this tour of the Lone Tree Cemetery you will hear stories of loss, but also of hope and resilience and how people in the past approached the constant threat of illness and disease. Discover what living in Telluride and the United States was like during the 1918 influenza epidemic.
Looking at these dark days of the past can help shed some light on how to better arm ourselves with knowledge to navigate our current situation.
Tours meet each Monday at the east entrance to the cemetery on Columbia Avenue. To arrive here, walk to Columbia Avenue (one block north of Colorado/Main) and head east (towards the waterfall/end of the box canyon) until it dead ends at the cemetery gate.
Tour groups are limited to 9 people and reservations must be made in advance. We are sorry, but we cannot accommodate walk ups due to COIVD-19. All participants are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines during the tour. We will have freshly sanitized hearing devices for those who want them.
