Museum Re-opening July 1 by Appointment Only

We are excited to welcome visitors back to the Museum July 1 by appointment only. We will be taking appointments Wednesday – Saturday.

The Museum is committed to keeping everyone safe and will institute precautionary measures such as regular disinfecting of common surfaces as well as adhering to social distancing guidelines. Our interactive exhibits have also been pulled to cull transmission.

Groups or individuals visiting the Museum must pay in advance and follow all safety precautions. Everyone who enters will be required to wear a mask and sanitize their hands. If you or your party does not have a mask we will provide one for you. Groups must be smaller than 10 people and part of one family unit. We will do our best to allow ample time for everyone to absorb out exhibits and well curated history.

We want everyone to know we understand this will be a new experience, and we thank you for your patience as we navigate our re-opening under the current circumstances. It is imperative to us that we keep everyone safe including visitors and our staff. This is obviously new for us (and you!) and we appreciate your patience understanding as we work out the details.

Currently Closed

We are currently closed while we develop new and effective practices for re-opening the Museum in the safest manner possible. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this new world. Please stay tuned for details. We look forward to seeing you soon here at the Museum.

Safe at Home Summer Camp

Parenting during a pandemic is tricky. Telluride’s new Safer at Home Camp Challenge is here to help!

We have collaborated with 9 other local organizations and nonprofits on a fun, free camp that kids can do safely from home. This downloadable packet of activities, from cool science experiments and reading challenges to amazing arts and crafts, will get your kids outside, reading, and creating. There are even healthy lunch recipes and a calendar of fun “challenges.” Activities are designed for all ages, but kids under 9 should participate with an older sibling or guardian.

Share your fun! Be sure to post pictures of your adventures and creations and tag them #SAHCampChallenge.

Museum Closing Early for Winter Season

In consideration of the health and safety of visitors, employees and the local community, the Telluride Historical Museum will be closing early for the winter season. Last day open will be Saturday, March 14. The Museum will undergo a thorough cleaning and is planning to reopen for summer on June 1.

“As a small nonprofit and important cultural institution for the community, it is an extremely difficult decision to close our doors early.” says Executive Director Kiernan Lannon, “We understand this pandemic is serious and affects everyone. Our highest priority is to protect the health and wellbeing of staff and visitors. We’ll do what we can to minimize the impact for our staff and think creatively on how we can continue to engage the community during the closure. We are very fortunate that we have such incredible support from our community and we will do what we must to get by during this challenging time. We look forward to doing our part to support our community at large.”

In an effort to promote social distancing, the spring fundraiser Daffodil Days will be taking place in a limited manner and will not include live sales at Alpine Bank or the Community Table on Colorado Avenue. Bundles of daffodils are available for purchase online and over the phone and will be available for pick up at the Museum starting Monday, March 16. Those who order bundles of five or more can have the flowers delivered free of charge.

The Telluride Historical Museum has already postponed their other fundraiser, The ‘70s Shindig. A future date has not yet been set. With the loss of revenue due to lack of admissions and a cancelled event, the Museum is hoping the community will take advantage of Daffodil Days to offer their support.

For questions or more information please call the Museum at (970) 728-3344 or email kiernan@telluridemuseum.org
