Hike into History (and Poetry!): Placerville Angell Lode Trail with Kierstin Bridger

Thusday, August 12th

9am

Meeting in front of the Placerville Schoolhouse

Explore Placerville mining ruins and hear poetic perspectives of local geology and our historic mining communities from local writer, performer, and poet Kierstin Bridger and museum staff.

The access to the trailhead is located up Surprise Avenue, we will caravan from the Placerville School House

This is a short but strenuous hike up the Angell Lode Natural Area Trail.

The trail ascends the hill to the east and passes old mining portals and vanadium mine ruins in the hills above Placerville. This trail is fairly primitive and includes scrambling through some skree and brush and some steep drop offs. Dogs are not encouraged. Please bring rain and sun protection, plenty of water, and snacks.

This hike will last approximately 4 hours.

$20 for Non-Members or $15 for museum members.

Open for the Summer!

After an incredibly busy off-season behind the scenes, the Museum is open for the summer! We’re very excited to welcome guests back, and even more excited that things are starting to get back to something that resembles normal. This year, we will be open Monday through Saturday, 11AM to 5PM, with extended hours (until 7PM) on Thursdays. Reservations will only be required for groups of 6 or more people, but anyone is welcome to book a reserved entry slot. If the Museum gets too crowded and we need to meter out admissions, those with reservations will be given priority entry. We will also still be requiring masks unless you are fully vaccinated. For more information on all of our updated visitation policies, please see the Visit page.

We hope you will come visit the Museum this summer, and if you do, you will also be able to check out our brand-new annual exhibit, Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World

And speaking of things you won’t want to miss… We’re currently hard at work filling out our summer programming slate, and we’re happy to announce that we have a number of offerings confirmed. Similar to last summer, we will be offering historical walking tours with world-class raconteur, Ashley Boling, on both Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1PM. Additionally, to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of Telluride’s designation as a National Historic Landmark District, we are once again hosting free monthly HARC walking tours on the 2nd Friday of each month. In addition, we will also be offering monthly tours of Lone Tree Cemetery on June 18, July 16, and August 13. And finally, we can also confirm that we will be offering three Hike into History Programs this summer starting with a guided trek along the Bear Creek Trail in July.

As we begin to settle into our summer season, we again wanted to thank our amazing members and friends for their incredible support as we navigated the challenges brought on by the pandemic. There simply isn’t any way we could have gotten to this point without you, and we hope you’ll come and enjoy what the Museum has to offer over the next few months. We can’t wait to see you.

Our Summer Season is Just Around the Corner

Summer is rapidly approaching, and we are busy getting the Museum ready to welcome visitors again!  We are planning to open for the summer season on Thursday, June 3rd at 11AM.  From there, we are planning on having a “typical” summer in terms of our hours of operation.  We’ll be open Monday-Saturday, 11AM-5PM (Thursdays until 7PM).

We are excited to announce that when we reopen for the season, we will also be unveiling a brand new annual exhibit exploring the history of infectious disease, pandemic, and the efforts to combat illness.

The new exhibit is just the beginning.  We’re also planning for a summer full of programs and events.  Our summer programming gets started with our traditional Historical Walking Tours with Ashley Boling.  These will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 1PM.

Going forward be on the look out for details on our other summer favorites including our Hikes into History, Family Night at the Museum, Cemetery Tours, Feasting on History and more!

We hope to see you at your Museum this summer!

Museum To Remain Closed

Due to the local increase in COVID-19 cases and the County’s raising of the COVID threat level to the red stage, the Museum will be delaying its reopening plans until further notice.  Likewise, we are also temporarily suspending private visitation opportunities as well while we assess how we can reopen in the safest manner possible.

There is a chance, however, that we may be able to offer private visitation of the Museum in the near future.  If you have interest in visiting the Museum, please email info@telluridemuseum.org and we will do our best to accommodate you as soon as possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we appreciate your patience and understanding.  The health and safety of our staff, visitors, and community are of the utmost importance to the Museum.

Closed for the Season

Our last day of operations for the summer season is Saturday October, 17. Our tentative re-opening date is December 2. If you would like to visit the Museum before then, or reserve a private historic walking tour, please send an email at least 48 hours in advance to info@telluridemuseum.org.
